Here are some of the top spots to make the most of your summertime in Metro Detroit…

DETROIT ZOO

Part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system, Indian Springs Metropark offers a wide range of activities for outdoor lovers. Hilary Simmet, Interim Chief of Marketing and Communications tells us, “Huron-Clinton Metroparks have served the people of Southeast Michigan since 1940. Managed by the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, the Metroparks are made up of 13 properties in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. The Metroparks provide educational resources on science, nature, history, and the environment.” At Indian Springs, your family can find picnic spots, an extensive golf course, horseback riding, a splash pad for those unbearable hot days, a playground for hours of fun, and the Environmental Discovery Center for those looking to add a bit of education to their kiddo’s summer agenda. This Metropark is great for recreation and learning this summer.

MARVIN’S MARVELOUS MECHANICAL MUSEUM

Step into a world of wonder at Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum. This unique spot is a 5,000-square-foot treasure trove of vintage arcade games, mechanical oddities, and rare memorabilia. RED OAKS WATERPARK

The lazy river is a favorite for those looking to relax, while the water slides offer a thrill for the more adventurous. The SplashTown features 52 interactive water features, including a dumping bucket. It’s a refreshing way to spend a hot summer day. CRANBROOK INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE

The Cranbrook Institute of Science offers an immersive educational experience for the whole family. With interactive exhibits, a world-class collection of objects and artifacts, and a planetarium, there’s always something new to discover. Stand beneath a T.rex, feel a mastodon’s fur, or touch a meteorite. The institute’s engaging programs and special events ensure that visitors leave with a deeper understanding of the natural world. For the science fans, this is a great chance to explore.

TREERUNNER ADVENTURE PARK

6200 Drake Road, West Bloomfield Township

7553 Meadow Brook Road, Rochester

For those looking for outdoor adventure, TreeRunner Adventure Park is a fantastic choice. The aerial adventure park in West Bloomfield features over 250 different obstacles ranging from beginner to advanced. There are 47 zip lines, various trails, and dedicated areas for kids. While the Rochester location is smaller, it also features fields perfect for kite flying, mini golf, and gem mining. This spot offers a great way for families to bond while tackling challenges together. Safety is a top priority here, and trained staff are always on hand to assist.

HERITAGE PARK PETTING FARM

Located in Taylor, the Heritage Park Petting Farm is a charming spot where kids can get up close with the animals. Media Center & Event Specialist Samantha Rickard shares, “The Heritage Park Petting Farm is a community hub for rural animal life in an urban city. Directly attached to the popular Heritage Park, the farm is home to over 100 animal residents. The farm features several special events and offers birthday party packages, field trips, and other possible experiences. Here, you’ll find your favorite farm animals like goats, pigs, ponies, and more, plus some unexpected characters as well. Stop by for a memorable experience, we’re open year-round.” For frequent visitors, this petting farm offers Family Farm Passes, which permit entry to the farm and all of the events put on by the facility.

FUN ZONEZ

27200 Joy Road, Redford Charter Township

For high-energy entertainment, Fun ZoneZ is a must-visit. This dinosaur-themed indoor playground offers a variety of activities that will keep children entertained for hours. With bumper cars, arcade games, play structures, and laser tag, it’s the perfect place to let the kids burn off some energy while having a blast. Plus, there are comfortable seating areas for adults to relax in the Quiet Zone, with the opportunity to play with their kids 12 and up.
